In this picture you see the Boatsteps™ in place beside a Westerly. You can clearly see the Treadmaster surface. Note also that even though this is a narrow finger there is no obstruction to other berth users.  
Dump the crates!

Boatsteps™ are moulded from glassfibre with bonded in reinforcement in the step area.

The non slip surface on standard 'Boatsteps is genuine treadmaster or as an option can be fitted with teak decking to match your boat.

Other options include lighting and a door for access to let you store items. (One customer has a pressure washer plumbed and out of sight!)

It may be the 'real thing' but crates are dangerous and unsightly!
